Join this dynamic group for a celebration of today’s music for strings at its most thrilling and varied, including the meditative Third Symphony by Philip Glass.

About this event

Scottish Ensemble explores the power and breadth of music for strings, with a dreamlike and contemporary programme. Performing music that delights, surprises and challenges, this ambitious group encourages the listener to explore new musical paths and connections.

Embark on a journey that traces the musical landscape of each piece and arrives at a performance of Philip Glass’ meditative Symphony No.3, written for 19 string players.

Glass said of the work that it ‘fell naturally into a four-movement form and even given the nature of the ensemble and solo writing, seems to have the structure of a true symphony, though in the core it is the symphony for strings.’
