About this event

The Programme

Great things come in small packages! Chamber music is intimate in scale, but Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler thought big from an early age – and in these two early piano quartets, you can almost hear their youthful imaginations straining to soar free. This is music of huge vistas and unbridled passion: exactly what you’d expect from these fledgling geniuses.

The Performers

The Notos Quartett is a multi-award-wining ensemble that specialises in music for piano and strings, and whose four members know and love this music intensely. Praised for their ‘virtuosic brilliance’ and ‘profound musicality’, they’ll bring out all the poetry as well as the glitter in these two irrepressible mini-masterpieces.

'Strauss and I are digging from different sides of the same mountain. One day we shall meet'. – Gustav Mahler
