Half Six Fix: Shostakovich & Strauss

Half Six Fix: Shostakovich & Strauss

Date: 27 Mar
Time: 18:30
Gianandrea Noseda conductor

London Symphony Orchestra

In this one-hour concert, Gianandrea Noseda shares his insights on two tumultuous pieces, connected by their invigorating changeability.

Just 18 years old at the time of its completion, Shostakovich's First Symphony propelled him into the international spotlight. Breathtakingly unpredictable, the piece charts a course through soundscapes of blazing passion, melancholy introspection and caustic humour.

Strauss recounts the folktale of a troublesome trickster in his whimsical and irreverent tone poem Till Eulenspiegel. Taking aim at notions of convention, propriety and authority, Eulenspiegel's anarchic spirit shines in this witty and playful piece.

This concert is part of Half Six Fix, a new way to experience the LSO. Enjoy a drink from your seat, hear an introduction to the music from Gianandrea Noseda before the performance, and read programme notes on your phone or device.
