Yulianna Avdeeva: Chopin, Schumann & Schubert

Date: 1 Oct
Time: 19:30
Yulianna Avdeeva, pianist

A revelatory Russian pianist performs dreamy music by Chopin, Schumann and Schubert.

Yulianna Avdeeva came to prominence when she won First Prize at the 2010 Chopin Competition. Since then her reputation has grown as one of the most distinctive artists of her generation.

Qualities of invention, fantasy and improvisation permeate this evening's musical selection, an ideal showcase for her remarkable virtuosity.

The all-Chopin first half reveals the composer's introspective imagination, opening and closing with two extraordinary works which were structurally and harmonically ahead of their time: the introspective Nocturne in C sharp minor, Op. posth - written as an exercise for the composer's 2nd Piano Concerto - and the dramatic Op.44 Polonaise.

Schumann's dream-like Phantasiestücke and Schubert's colossal Wanderer Fantasy comprise the second half of the recital.
