Kurt Elling - The Big Blind- Written by Kurt Elling and Phil Galdston, orchestrated by Guy Barker (UK premiere)
Join us to watch a classic radio-style thriller come to life before your very eyes.
This noir-inspired audio drama with music set in mid-20th-century Chicago charts the trials and tribulations of a young jazz singer.
Featuring original compositions as well as lyrical adaptations of songs by Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and Wayne Shorter, all re-imagined by Elling, the music helps to tell a rollercoaster of a tale.
Since 1952, the BBC Concert Orchestra has been the house orchestra for BBC Radio 2's Friday Night Is Music Night. It gives frequent broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, including regular performances at the BBC Proms, and has performed on such recent BBC soundtracks as Africa and The Paradise. This year, the orchestra returns to the Southbank Centre as an Artistic Partner Orchestra, for a series of concerts exploring pre- and post-war America as well as giving the UK premiere of Terry Riley's organ concerto.www.bbc.co.uk/concertorchestra
The Queen Elizabeth Hall is the second largest concert hall on Southbank Centre site, hosting chamber orchestras, quartets, choirs, dance performances and opera. As well as the main concert hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall also contains two smaller venues, the Purcell Room and The Front Room at the QEH. Festival Village is located on the ground level of Queen Elizabeth Hall, underneath the foyer entrance and the Roof Garden on the top of the venue.www.southbankcentre.co.uk
