About this event

‘Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted’. Brahms was never too sure about religion, so when he composed his German Requiem he wrote music to console the living, here and now. And he did it with such gentleness, imagination and warmth that listeners of all faiths (and none) can draw solace from the sounds he created. It’s a serene contrast to the heady, intoxicating atmosphere of Szymanowski’s luscious Stabat Mater.

The London Symphony Chorus is a musical force to be reckoned with – and under its inspiring Chorus Director Simon Halsey it brings a new dimension of sonic excitement every time it adds its hundred-plus voices to the LSO. Regular collaborators with Sir Simon Rattle, today they sing two pieces with a very special place in his heart.

‘Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.’ ~ Brahms: German Requiem
