About this event
A king, a queen, his favourite and her lover – caught in a struggle for power and survival.
Lessons in Love and Violence takes the story of King Edward II and reimagines it as a gripping modern opera. Composed by Sir George Benjamin with a libretto by Martin Crimp, it explores what happens when personal relationships and political power become impossible to separate. First performed to critical acclaim in 2018, the opera is intense, fast-moving and emotionally charged. Edward Gardner has assembled a world-beating cast for this one-off concert performance.
