About this event

The orchestra falls silent, then returns with a sudden burst of sound and a powerful organ entry. Saint-Saëns’s Third Symphony is famous for this moment, which is especially striking in live performance.

In Kahchun Wong’s programme of energetic, large-scale works, we also hear Richard Strauss’s ‘Also sprach Zarathustra’, known for its opening fanfare and inspired by ideas about humanity and the universe. Charles Ives’s music adds another perspective, exploring big questions without giving clear answers.
