Find out what sitarist and composer Jasdeep Singh Degun has planned for his brand-new collaboration with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Into the Night is a work for five Indian classical soloists and orchestra. It draws on two night-time raags – Bageshri and Kaunsi Kanada – each offering its own distinct emotional character.
The piece is a reflection of Degun’s creative and contemplative relationship with the night – a time when the world falls quiet and the imagination begins to stir. Sometimes electric and brimming with energy, at other times steeped in deep stillness, Into the Night captures the shifting landscapes that come alive after dark.
Commissioned by BBC Radio 3 and performed by Jasdeep Singh Degun, Kirpal Panesar, Kaviraj Singh, Gurdain Rayatt, Upneet Singh and the BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Ellie Slorach and orchestrated by Tom Coult.
Part of New Music Biennial, this event includes two performances of the same work and a short interview with the creative team in between the two, enabling audiences to experience the second performance with greater insight into the creative process.
