Revel in the idiosyncratic sounds of vibrant contemporary quartet The Hermes Experiment, as they collaborate on a world premiere with composer and turntablist Shiva Feshareki.
The Hermes Experiment, Anne Denholm harp, Marianne Schofield double bass, Oliver Pashley clarinet, Héloïse Werner soprano, Shiva Feshareki turntables and electronics
Soprano, clarinet, harp and double bass is not a combination that springs to mind when someone says ‘quartet’. But The Hermes Experiment’s distinctive sound is their superpower. Tonight they take us on a typical Hermes journey, culminating in the premiere of Feshareki’s new work – a piece that merges live ambisonic turntablism with acoustic instrumentation to create a cosmic dance of energy between sounds. Tailored to the acoustics of Milton Court, it plays with spatial and sonic boundaries to create a deeply hypnotic physical experience.
‘Hermes are quite an act, boldly entertaining’ say The Scotsman. Winners of the 2021 Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award, this collaboration with one of the most exciting contemporary classical composers will be a captivating evening of suspense and beauty.
This concert is dedicated to the memory of artist and composer Mira Calix.
