The organist thrills us with music from across the spectrum, showing off the range and power of the Royal Festival Hall’s refurbished organ.
Renowned for the dizzying range of her musical interests, Carol Williams prides herself on bringing all genres of music to the organ.
Her recital Mad Rush takes its title from Philip Glass' piece of the same name, which she has arranged for the instrument.
It could equally apply to Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee, which joins the line-up as she contrasts masterpieces by the traditional legendary names of the organ – Vierne, Tournemire, Widor – with the anything-but-expected.
That includes the songs ‘Tico-Tico’, ‘Take Five’ and ‘Midnight Special’, and there are two works by Williams herself to enjoy as she puts the Royal Festival Hall’s magnificent Harrison & Harrison through its paces.
‘A hot-blooded artist who prefers to delight in the moment and wants to share it immediately with the audience ... very irresistible and atypical concert’
