Master of the unexpected: there’s never a dull moment when it comes to Haydn’s music. And his final symphony, ‘London’, is no exception. Whether it’s the unexpected shift from the dark, monumental opening to the glowing ‘Allegro’, or the innocent second movement which quickly becomes something more turbulent, this symphony is packed with drama.
But first, expect elegance, grace, and charm in Mozart’s symphony. Southbank Sinfonia is joined by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields to perform works by two of the greatest classical composers.
