Rebecca Saunders Lash - Acts of Love
“I wanted to ask…” A woman is suspended in the immediate aftermath of a death. She recounts fantasies and memories of love, loss, sex and sickness: the starting point for Lash, Rebecca Saunders’s and Ed Atkins’s uncompromising interrogation of passion, truth and the very physical business of being human.
Critics were astounded when this new opera – Saunders’s first - was premiered in Berlin in 2025. “The music grabs you by the shirt-front and holds you in a vice-like grip”, was one verdict. Now, as part of the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s day of Total Immersion in Saunders’s music, we present the UK premiere, in a concert performance featuring all four of the soloists from that acclaimed first production. This is 21st century music drama at its most intimate, and its most essential.
