Inspired by a poem about nature and peace, Webern’s Im Sommerwind paints a rich musical picture of nature. Robert Schumann’s lovely Piano Concerto is filled with hidden love-messages to his wife Clara, and if any pianist can bring out both its passion and its playfulness, it’s Javier Perianes, praised by The Times for his ‘evident modesty and utter brilliance’.
The concert ends with Brahms’s First Piano Quartet, transformed into a colourful full orchestral work by Webern’s teacher, Schoenberg.
