‘I pursue the inner, hidden reality, the very essence of objects in their own intrinsic nature.’ Constantin Brâncuși
Join us at Debut Sounds, our annual showcase of new works by the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young Composers, featuring performances at the forefront of contemporary creativity.
This year, five emerging composers turn to the visionary sculptor Constantin Brâncuși for inspiration. On the 150th anniversary of his birth, each of them has created a new orchestral work that explores his extraordinary art.
Brâncuși sought to represent ‘not the outer form but the idea, the essence of things’ in his work, a credo that seems made for music. Guided by LPO Composer-in-Residence Sir George Benjamin, our composers transform that vision into sound, finding new musical possibilities in Brâncuși’s striking shapes and ideas. From the soaring simplicity of Bird in Space to the hypnotic repetition of Endless Column, their music pushes beyond the surface to uncover something deeper.
In further celebration of emerging talent, the music will be performed by an ensemble of musicians from the LPO Foyle Future Firsts Development Programme, alongside LPO players, all under the baton of William Cole.
This is an evening of creativity not to be missed – immediate, exploratory and alive with possibility.
